Maine Humanities Council to offer the statewide professional development program An Engaged Citizenry: Using Primary Sources in Civics and Government
PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Humanities Council will offer a statewide professional development program, An Engaged Citizenry: Using Primary Sources in Civics and Government, for Maine’s K-12 teachers. The program is made possible through a grant from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University. This is the first Teaching with Primary Sources grant awarded in Maine.
History camp, free for high school students, offered by Maine Humanities Council in Bangor and Richmond
PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Humanities Council is again offering History Camp, a free week-long day camp for 7th – 12th grade students who like history. The first, at the Bangor Museum and History Center in Bangor, from June 25 to June 29, 2012, will focus on Penobscot County in the nineteenth century. The second, from July 16 to July 20, 2012, at the Fort Richmond archaeological dig in Richmond, Old Fort Western in Augusta, and the Maine State Museum in Augusta, will focus on archaeology and the history of colonial forts in Maine.

PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Humanities Council has received a grant of $20,000 from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University, to offer a professional development program, An Engaged Citizenry: Using Primary Sources in Civics and Government, for Maine’s K-12 teachers. This is the first Teaching with Primary Sources grant awarded in Maine.
Maine Humanities Council Starts Executive Director Search
PORTLAND, Maine – The Board of Directors for the Maine Humanities Council has authorized a search to fill the position of Executive Director, with an anticipated starting date in the summer of 2012.
