Maine Humanities Council Grants from November 1, 2000 to March 31, 2001. They were funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Maine through the New Century Community Program.
Arts and Heritage
Cavalcade of Entertainment in Lovell: 1800-2000
To accompany the Lovell Historical Society's Exhibit on Lovell history the Library will mount a community project dealing with the history of local entertainment culminating in an historical pageant.

Two Wayne School Redwork Embroidery Quilts: 1926 and 2001
This grant will assist students in exploring the history of a redwork embroidery quilt that was made by Wayne School students in 1926. Students currently in the Wayne Elementary School will learn the cultural history of the historic quilt, learn embroidery skills similar to those taught in 1926, and create a new quilt that will be similar to the one made in 1926.

A Fish Story
Support for the scripting phase of a 60-minute historical documentary on the men and women from fishing communities along the North Atlantic coast who struggle to maintain their way of life after the collapse of the cod fishery. The film is targeted for distribution via PBS broadcast and the internet.

Teacher Education
Building Community through the Arts
This project offers high school teachers an opportunity to teach the humanities through the performing arts while simultaneously building a more positive social climate in the classroom. The program employs the services of a creative theater artist/educator who will help the students create an original dramatic piece based on a subject in their curriculum.
