Financial Summary — 2004

During FY04, Maine Humanities Council had operating income of $1,505,310, and operating expenses of $1,452,425. The Council has never incurred an operating deficit.

Over the past decade, MHC’s income sources have become increasingly diversified. As recently as 1995, nearly all of the Council’s resources came from the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency. While federal grants from NEH and other agencies still comprise about 50% of the Council’s budget, this support has been supplemented by a variety of grants and contributions from other sources, including a growing base of individual donors. In addition to the figures reported below, the council received in-kind contributions of time, mileage and materials valued at $464,897.
