WINTER WEEKEND 2009: War and Peace
We’re sorry - allotted spaces for Winter Weekend 2009 are filled, but we have begun a waiting list. To be added to the waiting list, please call us at (207) 773-5051. (Due to room capacity and our attempt to maintain the quality of the experience for those taking part, we limit Winter Weekend to 150 participants plus scholars and staff.) posted 9/3/08
The text for Winter Weekend 2009 is Tolstoy’s War and Peace, translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. This powerful novel explores in detail and depth the struggles of one segment of Russian society during the Napoleonic wars.
Winter Weekend 2009 takes place March 6 and 7 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick. The $200 registration fee includes a copy of the book, background readings, a reception, dinner, lunch, and coffee. CEUs are available for teachers. Limited scholarships are available for college and high school students. The program starts at 5 p.m. on Friday and continues until mid-afternoon on Saturday.
We have a one-page list of some over-night accommodations in the greater Brunswick area; download it as a Word document or as a pdf form. Also, mapquest may be useful for driving directions.

In recognition of the generosity of Winter Weekend sponsors, the MHC offers an early opportunity to sign up each year. If you are interested in this option, contact MHC Director of Development Diane Magras.
