Becoming A Volunteer Reader

back
"As I grow older, I've left behind many of my volunteer efforts, but one joy I still share with young children is the Born to Read program. Reading to the very young seems to sum up all my efforts as 'down to earth' volunteerism at its best."

Born to Read Volunteer

Mother Goose Born to Read seeks volunteer readers on an ongoing basis in Aroostook, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, Washington, and York Counties. Due to high interest and need on the part of child care providers, volunteers are always needed in every county. Although many volunteer readers are age 55 and older, volunteers of all ages are welcome. Volunteer recruitment and registration are done primarily through each county's RSVP office, which recruits readers on a rolling basis and matches them with child care programs.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer reader, please contact:
    · your local RSVP agency or
    · the Born to Read Volunteer Reader Program, 207-773-5051 or 1-866-MEreader
