Isabel del Valle is a Professor of Literature, specializing in the dimensions of pain and suffering depicted in poetry and novels. She is a member of the Argentine Association of Psychosomatic Gynecology and Obstetrics and has served as a speaker in both national and international congresses. One of her most recent publications was an article titled,“Illness and Narrative” for Unesco’s Latinoamerican Dictionary of Bioethics in 2008. Del Valle currently coordinates the humanistic approaches in Pallium Latinoamerica, a medical institution of Palliative Care. She is very excited to start a Literature & Medicine program in her country, as she continually seeks ways to introduce literature as an important tool in clinical practice in order to promote a better understanding of the subjective reality of illness. This understanding, in turn, results in a significant improvement in the doctor-patient relationship.
