Brita Zitin studied comparative literature at Smith College, then moved to Maine in 2003. After an internship at Portland Magazine, she joined the Council staff as a program officer for the Born to Read program. While she does not work for Literature & Medicine, she feels some affinity with the program. She was raised by parents who were both doctors and readers and she regularly borrows books from the Lit & Med library. Some of her favorites are Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy and What the Body Told by Rafael Campo.
