Poetry in the Branches, A Training for Maine Librarians, June 13 & 14, Bangor Public Library, Presented by Maine Humanities Councl and Poets House

POETRY IN THE BRANCHES is an award-winning program of Poets House in NYC that has a proven ability to develop new audiences for poetry. It utilizes an integrated, multi-layered approach to collection development, display, training of librarians and programming for adults and teens, creating a complete poetry environment in community libraries. The model can be adapted to fit any size system or budget, and to engage any portion of the diverse patron base served by libraries. PITB principles and programs are going strong to libraries in towns and cities in the United States and beyond.

POETS HOUSE is a sunny open space housing over 45,000 volumes of poetry. It was founded in 1985 by the U.S. Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz and the late Elizabeth Kray to provide something they felt was lacking in American cultural life: a place for poetry-a library, meeting place, locus of discussion, research, writing and inspiration. Since 1994 Poets House has been working with librarians to create complete environments for poetry in community libraries.
