Your support is crucial for receiving additional emergency funding from the Federation of State Humanities Councils with support from the Mellon Foundation
At the end of April, the Mellon Foundation announced that they were offering a $15 million dollar award to all 56 humanities councils for emergency funding to help us stabilize in this time of crisis and uncertainty. This generous gift represents the largest single investment by the Mellon Foundation in the nationwide network of humanities councils.
CALL TO ACTION
Each of the 56 councils will receive an outright grant of $200,000 to cover our operating and programmatic costs. AND we will be eligible to receive an additional $50,000 from Mellon if we can raise $50,000 in matching funds. To unlock this additional $50,000, we need to raise the same amount from individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations. This is our action call for you: What can you give today to help us reach our goal of $50,000?
Not a Long Term Fix
To be clear: This support is stabilizing in the short term. It is not a long-term fix. Funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) makes up approximately 69% of our annual budget. The termination of our NEH operating grant and the dismantling of NEH has impacted our 2025 budget to the tune of $525,000. This $200,000 grant plus the potential $50,000 in matched funds will help us continue our work through the end of the fiscal year and will keep us steady while we wait to see what’s next in the landscape of federal funding.
